Fire and Ice is a sensory hand massage session that explores the contrasting sensations of heat and cold through themed touch actions set to specially chosen music.
Using warm and cool hands, learners are invited to experience the feeling of dancing flames, gentle snowfall, a warming glow, icy breezes, glowing embers, and swirling ice through calm, rhythmic hand-based touch.
It can be used as a standalone sensory experience or alongside the Fire & Ice foot massage session ✋Fire & Ice Foot Massage, with some learners exploring the activity through their hands and others through their feet. This activity complements topics that explore contrast (such as fire and ice, hot and cold, or seasonal changes), as well as science themes like changing materials, temperature, and weather. It can also be used to support history topics such as the Ice Age and the Stone Age.
A PowerPoint/video with images and music accompanies this session. It can be downloaded from the Sensory Soup OneDrive or Dropbox, or viewed as a video on the Sensory Soup YouTube channel.
