Mission Control Sensory PE session for learners with PMLD and complex needs

Mission Control is a space-themed Sensory PE and movement session designed for children and young people with PMLD and complex learning needs who face physical barriers to movement and use wheelchairs or specialist seating. The activities can also be adapted for learners who are independently mobile.

Throughout the mission, learners prepare for space, blast off, explore the stars and planets, move through space as though gravity has disappeared, encounter a meteor storm and land on the Moon for a Moon Buggy Adventure before making the journey safely back to Earth.

This Sensory PE for PMLD session provides meaningful opportunities to experience and participate in movement through supported body movement, wheelchair travel, changes in speed and direction, visual tracking and responding to sound, touch and other sensory stimuli.. Learners are encouraged to take an active part in whatever way is possible for them because all movement matters, no matter how small.

The resource includes six space-themed PE activities, full delivery guidance, Teacher Notes, safety guidance, equipment ideas and a full resource list. A supporting Mission Control PowerPoint brings the mission to life with visuals, music and sound effects throughout the session.

Activities can be delivered as a complete Mission Control session or used individually and repeated to suit the needs of your learners.
